The misconception fight between Gohan vs Goku in the Dragon Ball had the fan base hyped after episode 90 of Dragon Ball Super.
In that episode, we saw the true return form for Ultimate Gohan as he challenged his father to a one-on-one fight.
This was in order to test Gohan’s strength comparative to Goku. It’s was an epic fight that featured Goku going Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan blue, and even into his full power of Kaioken on top of SSJ Blue before clashing with Gohan for one last time.

Although Gohan fell short, in that fight, being on the losing end of this clash. He showed how great his power truly has become.
However, it seems that many fans are misinterpreting what happened during this fight. Some are saying Gohan is actually weaker than Super Saiyan 2 Goku or equal to him, which is totally false.
So, let’s take a look at why this false. When Goku and Gohan initially squared-off, it was in a 2 V 2 match with Gohan teaming up with Piccolo and Goku teaming up with Tien Shinhan.
While Gohan and Goku in their base seem somewhat matched. Gohan revealed that he wasn’t going anywhere near his full power and challenge Goku to a one-on-one fight.
So, when Goku became a Super Saiyan 2 and Faced ultimate Gohan who powered up saying it was his current full power.

The two then clashed with the to exchanging blows and Goku firing ki blast which Gohan was able to deflect.
However, it appeared that Super Saiyan 2 Goku had the advantages. Goku was using his Instant Transmission to get in more hits on Gohan and finally firing a Kamehameha at him which Gohan match with his own blast.
Can Gohan be stronger than Goku?
Gohan can surpass his father Goku, however, Gohan would need a lot of training to close the gap between and Goku. Throughout the history of Dragon Ball, Gohan had surpassed his father many times, one recent event example is the fight between Perfect Cell vs Gohan Super Saiyan 2.
Moving on, however, as Goku is yelling at Gohan to unleash more power, it became clear that Gohan was not actually using his full power as he powered up and was able to land more damage to Goku.
While getting the advantage Gohan at that point was trying to get Goku to take this fight seriously and use his full power. But Goku wasn’t fighting seriously as yet.
That’s when Gohan began to dial up his power even further and actually took Goku and spin him around and flung him into the air before charging at him.
Gohan was yelling at him to use his full power. Goku transformed into SSJblue and Gohan stated that he would show him his strength.
After that, Gohan went full power, when this happened Goku and Gohan charged at one another. Ultimate Gohan was actually able to get in some blows on Super Saiyan blue Goku as well as taking in blocked shots.
However, after one shot by Gohan that send Goku flying into the air, Goku was done holding back and went to his full power using his Super Saiyan blue Kaioken.
Full Power Gohan charges Goku in after an epic Clash of light. After the clash, Gohan was the one on the losing side, throw one last punch with his unconscious body stopping short of Goku’s face before he fell.
Why Gohan Is Stronger Than You Think
So, if we think about this fight, it’s clear that Gohan was not weaker than or on par with Super Saiyan 2 Goku. Gohan was shown to be holding back considerably when he was facing that form of Goku’s as well as taking the advantage over.
Additionally, Gohan was really that much weaker than Goku, he wouldn’t have been able to land blows on him in his Super Saiyan blue form. Let alone blocking and taking them without being instantly knocked unconscious.
Furthermore, Goku is quick to use his KaioKen after his exchange with Gohan in Super Saiyan blue.
If he had the fight easily handled he would have continued to hold back longer as he had done prior in the fight.
The fact that Gohan was able to not only survive his final Clash but still throw a punch before falling unconscious shows that while he may not be on par with Goku’s Kaio Ken. He’s clearly not too far off from it, and if we look at the beginning of the next episode where the near Raider states that Gohan’s power rival that of Goku’s.
So, this only means that the ultimate Gohan has returned and how Goku says the two of them will go to new heights together.
Shows that the intent of the scene was, in fact, show that Gohan was not significantly behind Goku and certainly not weaker than his Super Saiyan 2 or 3.
However, rather pretty close to his level as a Super Saiyan blue in Hephzibah tensional to surpass Goku even with Kaiken. After all, Gohan’s character has always had a seemingly endless level of potential which grows over time.
Conclusion
Gohan has been stated to have greater potential than Goku himself and with Gohan train to achieve his goal, he may have an ultimate transformation never seen before.
So. I think it’s entirely possible that Gohan will surpass his father again in the future. Although knowing many Goku fans will likely say that Goku wasn’t trying he was weakened or just humoring Gohan. They can never actually admit when someone is close to power to equal or even stronger than Goku.
I’m not going to pay that any real attention as the episode seemed to be clear in their intention that Gohan isn’t weaker.
And of course, Gohan certainly was not below Goku’s normal forms. So, hopefully, this post will go a long way to dissolving this misconception.
I continue to see in this fanbase who time and time again won’t accept with the show is telling them about Gohan and his power.

Gohan can stay in this form for a long time, goku has to win quick in kaioken so i think gohan is the better fighter.
You are right, without the Kaioken Gohan would have the advantage over Goku.
